The scale of the language gap.

Across the markets Ozana AI serves, millions of patients are treated in a language they don't fully understand.

    United States

    • about 68M speak a language other than English at home
    • about 25M have limited English proficiency

Source: U.S. Census Bureau (American Community Survey).

    United Kingdom

    • 4.2M have a main language other than English
    • about 1M speak little or no English

Source: ONS, Census 2021 (England and Wales).

    European Union

    • 46.7M residents born outside the EU (10.4%)
    • 24 official languages across the union

    Source: Eurostat, 2025.

    A mandate, not a nice-to-have.

Language access in healthcare is a legal duty across all three markets, and the rules are tightening.

    United States

Title VI and ACA Section 1557

Federally funded health programs must provide meaningful language access. The 2024 final rule (effective July 2024) requires qualified interpreters, written language-access procedures, and notices of availability.

    United Kingdom

Equality Act 2010 and NHS standards

Refusing interpreting in NHS care can amount to indirect race discrimination. The NHS Accessible Information Standard and NHS England's interpreting guidance set provider duties, and NHS DTAC governs the technology that meets them.

    European Union

    Patients' Rights Directive 2011/24/EU

Patients have a right to clear, understandable information about their care under the Cross-border Healthcare Directive and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, with member states adding their own interpreting requirements.
